Temporary workers around the world are among those hardest-hit by the economic downturn caused by the pandemic, but with vaccines projected to be available soon, the labor market will redeploy many of those who became unemployed or underemployed. Some of this is already happening and we’re seeing that firsthand at Randstad.

For employers, this is a good time to recalibrate their workforce strategy. Temporary workers offer companies agility, flexibility and cost efficiency to pivot with the uncertain road ahead. With an abundance of excellent workers now actively seeking opportunities in the labor market, this is a favorable time to acquire a variety of skills needed for recovery and growth – provided companies understand how best to leverage temporary labor.

Talent attraction and retention considerations are as important for temporary workers as they are for permanent employees. Work-from-home policies should be adjusted to cover all labor types. Additionally, onboarding and engaging temporary talent requires reconsideration of existing processes to ensure optimum engagement.

The temporary labor market is expected to be stronger in 2021, but your opportunity to secure great talent can take place now by considering how more contingent labor can support your business goals.
