About the School
Nestled in a picturesque woodland area in Darwen, this innovative school, rated 'Good,' caters to students aged 10-19 with complex needs, including Asperger's Syndrome, Autism, and similar conditions. They are currently seeking a Level 1-2 SEN Teaching Assistant to become a part of their passionate team.
Role Overview
In this role, you'll be crucial in nurturing the educational and emotional development of students, ensuring they thrive in a supportive and secure setting. Occasionally, your duties may extend to personal care and behaviour management, tailored to each student's unique needs.
Building strong, positive relationships with pupils is key, creating a welcoming and stimulating learning environment. You'll support the class teacher in providing high-quality, engaging, and customised educational experiences, aiming for students to excel in all aspects of learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in planning and evaluating educational activities.
- Provide constructive feedback on student progress and achievements.
- Aid in monitoring, assessing, and documenting pupil progress according to school policies.
- Encourage positive behaviours and focus, adapting strategies as needed.
- Foster spiritual, moral, social, and cultural growth, integrating British values through the PSHE curriculum.
- Promote the cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural, and physical development of students, embracing a holistic approach to education.
- Adaptability and a readiness to help in various capacities are essential in this dynamic SEN environment.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Prior experience in an SEN setting, either employed or voluntary.
- A full UK driving license and access to a personal vehicle (necessary for carpool duties).
- A recognised qualification at Level 2 or above in Support work for Teaching and Learning in Schools (preferred).
- GCSE Maths and English Level 2/C or higher (required).
- A solid understanding of Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures.
- Experience with SEN or SEMH/ASD students.
- A student-centred approach, treating each child as a unique individual.
- Creativity and positivity in addressing pupils' individual needs.
