To perform system design, signalling design, analysis, modelling and simulation to specify communication based train control systems. To develop and define system design features to meet Customer requirements. To analyze and evaluate designs to verify compliance with system technical requirements. To develop and define Subsystems requirements. To develop block design, interlocking control tables, and application database for Software subsystems. To analyze and evaluate system performance and prepare associated technical contract deliverable.
The incumbent is accountable for performing the design work correctly, within cost and schedule limits, as defined in approved work packages.
The work is typically defined by the Work Package Manager, then reviewed and approved by the Systems Architect and/or Manager. The System Engineer typically works with a team of engineers to define what will be designed, how it will perform and how it will be determined that it is working correctly.

Responsibilities
● Converts Customer (internal and/or external) requirements into conceptual designs and prepares associated documentation by performing operational analyses, simulations and technical trade-off studies evaluating alternative design configurations and functional features.
● Similarly creates new concepts or modifies existing concepts to fulfil customer requirements.
● Prepares system, subsystem, and interface requirement specifications by analysing, decomposing modelling and refining customer requirements and typical train control domain requirements.
● Prepares Operational Concept Document.
● Performs technical/engineering tasks to define system design, subsystem requirements, application databases for software subsystems. Analysis and simulations are performed as necessary to identify design feasibility & driving requirements.
● Prepares specialised signalling design skills, covering one or more of the following:
- Signalling Principles;
- Block design;
- Interlocking control tables;
- Safe braking model;
MANAGEMENT (LR8)
Supervises contractors and other systems specialists, by defining their work, coaching them on how and what to prepare,
monitoring their progress and directing them on priorities.
Proposes work package estimates and descriptions based on the knowledge of the work and project requirements.
Prepares and delivers regular status reports for internal and external stakeholders
Identifies and implements process improvement initiatives
Qualifications
LR7: Entry-level expertise in URS Systems
LR8: Medium level expertise in URS Systems:-Intermediate (minimum 3) Senior (minimum 5) years on/or similar system complexity-
intermediate level of expertise on specialized engineering skills of the CBTC domain
Strong application (automated train control systems) domain knowledge & Knowledge of systems engineering principles and practices.
Knowledge of modern software engineering practices, methods and tools.
Knowledge of systems development life cycle.
Ability to sell/defend product to customers with differing levels of knowledge about automated systems.
Experience in using DOORS, Melody advance, etc..
Rail Signaling knowledge (desirable).
