Supplier Quality Engineer

Overview: The Supplier Quality Engineer ensures timely delivery of high-quality, compliant parts from external suppliers, working collaboratively within the Supplier Quality Assurance team.
Key Responsibilities
- Quality Assurance: Ensure high standards for incoming products and services from suppliers, promoting consistent, high-quality results.
- Supplier Selection: Collaborate with procurement and technical teams to assess and select suppliers, confirming their capabilities align with quality requirements.
- Supplier Onboarding: Oversee the onboarding of new suppliers, verifying their processes, procedures, and quality management systems are up to standard.
- Supplier Audits: Conduct supplier visits and audits to foster relationships, drive process improvements, and enhance technical capabilities to meet manufacturing requirements.
- Issue Resolution: Lead the resolution of supplier quality issues through the Faults process, actively contributing to meetings, and ensuring closure and rectification across the business.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engage key stakeholders (e.g., aerodynamics, design, procurement, planning, operations) to gather insights and enhance supplier quality.
- Quality Improvement Plans: Develop and manage integrated quality improvement plans for components or suppliers, providing updates across departments and to senior management.
- Nonconformance Reporting: Manage and advance the nonconformance reporting (NCR) and concessions process for effective issue tracking and resolution.
- Quality System Maintenance: Support the maintenance and development of the Quality Management system, defining clear supplier quality standards.
- Problem-Solving: Address quality issues methodically using an 8D problem-solving process for effective resolution.
- Feedback Loop: Communicate quality issues with race, design, and engineering teams to ensure best manufacturing practices and implement continuous improvements.
- Inspection and Testing: Oversee inspection and testing of materials, equipment, processes, and products to meet quality specifications.
- Quality Performance Analysis: Monitor and analyze quality metrics, providing executive summaries on supply chain performance using KPIs such as TQS and RFT.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure workflows, processes, and products meet safety regulations, adhering to safety protocols at all times.
- Additional Duties: Take on tasks as assigned by the Director of Procurement or their delegate.
Qualifications Skills / Technical skills:
- Membership or associate status with a Chartered Institute; Honors Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years in a quality-focused role within a fast-paced parts manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in quality tools like 8D, 5 Why, and FMEA.
- Strong understanding of composite, metallic, and additive manufacturing, with a specialization in carbon composite part manufacturing.
- Experience with New Product Introductions and problem-solving.
- Ability to manage multiple suppliers, ensuring timely deliveries.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Expertise in reading and interpreting Metrology, GD&T, and measurement reports.
- Project management skills to handle high-stress, time-sensitive situations effectively.
- A positive, collaborative approach and the ability to work well in a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and 3D CAD software.
- Competency in inspection tools such as CMM, FARO arms, and other hand tools.
- Ability to interpret complex inspection reports and make informed go/no-go decisions.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This role requires the ability to prioritize and manage tasks in a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment. Occasional domestic and international travel may be required, with flexibility for long hours, including weekends. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds, frequent bending, squatting, and manual tasks. The work environment involves machinery, and potentially hazardous materials. Compliance with company health and safety policies is mandatory.
