I am currently working with a specialist SEMH school in the West Yorkshire area who are looking to appoint an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant. This role offers the opportunity to work in a nurturing environment where you will play a pivotal role in helping learners build resilience, develop coping mechanisms, and reach their academic and personal goals.
The successful candidate will need to be comfortable dealing with challenging behaviours and have the experience to implement de-escalation techniques to provide a safe and inclusive environment.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and small group support to students with SEMH needs, fostering a safe and trusting environment.
- Work closely with teachers and other professionals to implement effective strategies in line with a learner's EHCP.
- Utilise a range of techniques to manage challenging behaviour, promote emotional regulation, and develop positive social skills.
- Encourage and support learner's participation in classroom activities and social interactions.
- Maintain clear boundaries while fostering a positive and nurturing atmosphere.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of a positive behaviour support system.
Requirements:
- Experience working with children with SEMH needs in a school or other educational setting.
- A calm and patient demeanour, with a strong understanding of de-escalation techniques.
- Ability to follow and implement structured support plans while adapting to individual learner needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with learners, families, and colleagues.
- A TeamTeach qualification (or willingness to attend training)
