The Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) provides a critical quality assurance role in safeguarding children in care and those at risk of significant harm. Operating within a statutory framework, the IRO ensures that each child's care plan is effective, focused on the child's best interests, and fully implemented. IROs work closely with social workers, families, and a wide range of agencies to oversee and review care plans, ensuring they are purposeful, comply with statutory requirements, and ultimately safeguard the child.
Responsibilities include:
... - Care Act assessments
- Report writing
- Chairing Looked After Children (LAC) reviews to ensure care plans are designed to meet the child's current and future needs.
- Having an informed understanding of mental health factors impacting child development
- Work on cases with increased complexity
- Determine an appropriate level of intervention and service provision
Requirements:
- Previous management experience working within child safeguarding services
- Skills of multi-agency working, developing child focused CP plans, understanding of dispute resolution and escalation process and challenging professional agencies.
