Local SEN Specialist school is seeking an experienced Maths teacher to join their team on a temporary to permanent basis.
This school is an independent specialist school providing high-quality, therapeutic and child-centred education to boys and girls from 6 to 17 years of age.
Within this role you will be primarily a teacher of children before a teacher of subjects. Knowing the child, building professional, nurturing and positive relationships and motivating students will all be key to your success. You will be a Mathematics Specialist and their curricula span Entry Level, Functional Skills, Key Stage 2 (KS2), Key Stage 3 (KS3) and GCSE. You will be supported by national subject champions who can support the work of non-subject specialists to be experts in how best to facilitate learning for the children they know best.
You will inspire children, creating a sense of awe and wonder and making subjects and lessons real and relevant to them. You will plan exciting and engaging learning opportunities which challenge and push students, whether they are working on the very basics or they have a special talent or passion for the subject.
The children require very special teachers who are able to manage some complex and challenging behaviours. The children require lots of attention, the right sort of communication, consistency and flexibility in equal measure, and a non-judgemental approach.
You will be part of the decision making that drives the school, provides outcomes for children and advocates for every child. Your input in developing both the academic curriculum and the opportunities in the extra-curricular offer will be welcomed - bringing your own interests and passions to the table.
The children come from a wide range of backgrounds, but all have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Many will also have other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties.
The children are at the centre of decision making, ensuring that education and therapy professionals, parents/carers, local authority teams and, most importantly, the students can work together to secure outstanding outcomes for all.
To be successful in your application you will have:
QTS qualification
Ideally Mathematics Specialism
Ideally previous experience working with SEN children
Enhanced DBS on the update service, or be willing to apply for one
