Who we are The Kingdom of the Netherlands is represented in Australia through its Embassy in Canberra, its Consulate-General in Sydney and five Honorary Consuls in the state capitals. The main focus areas of the Netherlands diplomatic missions in Australia are bilateral and multilateral cooperation on security policy, bilateral and global economic policy, promotion of bilateral trade and investment, cooperation on shared cultural heritage and consular services to Dutch citizens. The Embassy in Canberra and the Consulate-General in Sydney work together as one team and coordinate on a dailybasis. The total number of employees is around 25 people. The working languages are English and Dutch. The atmosphere is open and informal. Staff is encouraged to show initiative, collaborate, be inquisitive and work independently.
The management assistant/general affairs officer acts as a linking pin and has two core tasks:
- Management assistant for the (Deputy) Consul-General and management support tasks for the team in general;
- General affairs officer, providing administrative support for the general functioning of the Consulate General's office. The latter task is supervised by the Deputy Consul General in Sydney and certain processes are supervised by the operational manager at the NL Embassy in Canberra.

We are looking for an energetic and service-minded multitasker who can provide administrative and operational support to the Consulate General in Sydney in an enthusiastic and independent manner.
You can communicate well both in writing and verbally, you have excellent organisation and planning skills.
Job description
Management Assistant Tasks
- Agenda and mailbox management, drafting minutes of management meetings, coordination and preparation of meetings, receiving and welcoming external guests, customer relation management and responsible for updating data bases, as well as the organisation of receptions/events.
General Affairs tasks
- Administrative and logistical work in support of one or more operational business processes in the area of PIOFAH (Personnel, Information, Organisation, Finance, Administration and Housing), such as general administration, updating our website/intranet, purchasing of office supplies, payment of invoices, organising general maintenance and cleaning of the building.
Working hours
30 - 38 hours (4-5 days) per week
Monday-Thursday with a flexible start/end time between 07:30-17:30 hrs.
Friday from 07.30-14.00 hrs.
You will work alongside another experienced management assistant/general affairs officer.

Required skills
- (minimum) a completed secondary vocation and relevant working experience

- Command of the Dutch language, both verbally and in writing, is an asset
- Good knowledge of MS Office and Share Point

What we offer
The position offers opportunities for a person who is interested in developing their professional skills in an international environment. The team currently consists of 2 Dutch diplomats (the consul-general and deputy consul-general) and 9 locally employed staff members (3 Australians and a few dual citizens). The working languages are Dutch and English (some of the staff do not have knowledge of the Dutch language).
