THE SCHOOL
Based in Lewisham the school forms part of of a cluster which has many children join at age 3 and leave at 18 on completion of A Levels. There are over 1300 students on role and the school is over subscribed. More than three quarters of the students in Sixth Form move onto higher education and students routinely gain places at Oxbridge and Russell Group Universities.
THE JOB
Randstad are working with a client school in Lewisham who are seeking to appoint a Lead Science Technician to lead the practical and technical aspects of the science curriculum by preparing, providing, maintaining, organising and managing the resources required for healthy, safe, secure and exciting practical activities to be carried out by staff and students.
As LEAD SCIENCE TECHNICIAN you will:
- Lead in providing technical support to the Science Department.
- Work closely with the Heads of Department and attend all departmental meetings
- Ensure quality first teaching for all pupils by working with teachers to manage the provision of technical support for learning activities.
- Advise the technician team on departmental matters and the need for any additional support
- Ensure that the Technical Team is resourced, organised and developed to meet the performance standards required.
- Work with pupils in the delivery/demonstration of practical learning activities and the preparation and maintenance of teaching areas and equipment for pupils.
- Monitor stock levels of consumables e.g. petri dishes, syringes, pipettes, reagents, safety equipment etc and to complete internal requisition forms as part of the process to maintain good stock levels.
- Receive chemicals, equipment and biological materials ensuring all recorded items have been delivered in good condition as per the delivery note.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards.
- To ensure all materials are stored neatly and in an organised way.
- To ensure equipment is kept safe from accidental damage and can be located and accessed easily by any member of the technician team.
- Check laboratory equipment, models, visual aids etc. and where appropriate to service and repair such items or to make arrangements for the work to be carried out by contractors e.g. microscopes.
- Maintain records of health and safety checks, risk assessments, instruction manuals, data sheets, service and repair records etc.
THE CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will:
- Have Previous experience of working in a Science Faculty withing an educational environment]
- Experience of working with chemicals
- In depth scientific knowledge covering GCSE / A- Level Science Curriculum
- Knowledge of COSHH and CLEAPS guidelines
- DBS on the update service
