About the Role
As a Mainframe COBOL Developer, you’ll ensure the seamless operation of our mainframe applications while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions. Your expertise in COBOL, DB2, and JCL will be pivotal in optimising code, managing databases, and adhering to compliance standards.
Responsibilities
- Provide support and troubleshooting for existing mainframe applications to ensure optimal performance and up time.
- Write and maintain technical documentation, specifications, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate with business analysts, QA teams, and infrastructure teams to deliver solutions.
- Optimise COBOL code for better efficiency and performance.
- Interact with DB2 databases, write and optimise SQL queries, and maintain data integrity.
- Ensure all code complies with organisational standards and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct unit testing, assist in system integration testing, and debug programs as needed.
Mandatory Requirements
- Proven expertise in COBOL, JCL, DB2, and CICS.
- Strong knowledge of mainframe utilities and tools, including TSO, ISPF, VSAM, and SDSF.
- Hands-on experience with batch and online processing in mainframe environments.
- Familiarity with debugging tools like Xpediter or Abend-AID.
- Understanding of file transfer protocols and middleware integration.

Experience

- Familiarity with modern mainframe technologies like COBOL-IT or Micro Focus.
- Experience transitioning mainframe applications to cloud-based systems.
- Knowledge of DevOps practices within a mainframe environment.
