Responsibilities
- Compliance Management: Implement and enforce Health and Safety policies across all project sites, ensuring adherence to local and provincial regulations.
- Worksite Analysis: Conduct regular inspections, identify hazards, and analyze accident data to prevent workplace injuries and improve safety practices.
- Training Programs: Plan, conduct, and audit health and safety training for all employees, maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with legislative requirements.
- Reporting and Documentation: Ensure thorough and timely completion of all required documentation, adhering to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and company standards.
- Program Review: Regularly evaluate and update the company’s Health & Safety Program, ensuring it meets the latest OHSA regulations and maintains certifications like COR/ISO.
- Accident Prevention: Manage the identification and analysis of hazards and near-misses, developing proactive solutions to prevent incidents.
- Workers Compensation Management: Oversee the return to work and modified duty programs, and communicate relevant workers’ compensation information to senior management.
- Safety Advocacy: Act as an advocate for health and safety within the industry, promoting a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
Qualifications
Education:
Post-secondary education in a related discipline, such as Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a similar field.
Gold Seal Certification (an asset or working towards it).
Certifications:
National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification.
COR/ISO Internal Auditor Certification.
Experience:
A minimum of five years of experience in Health and Safety Management within the construction industry.
Strong knowledge of construction processes and safety best practices.
Skills:
Proficiency in health and safety regulations, particularly the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software tools for maintaining safety databases and documentation.
