Business Development (BD) leads and manages activities related to licensing, alliance management, divestitures, and other deal structures to support the overall strategy of the company as well as global initiatives related to licensing, acquisitions, and divestitures.The Business Development team collaborates closely with cross-functional partners including Commercial, R&D, Finance, Pricing, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, Global and Regional Business Development, and Legal functions.BD plays a core role in assessing various new business opportunities, both global and local. It also functions as a liaison for global in-licensing opportunities from Japanese pharmaceutical companies.The Head of Business Development will coordinate and lead the identification of new business opportunities, conduct strategic and operational analyses of opportunities, construct and lead deal teams, and handle contract negotiations, including post-deal alliance management. The Head of Business Development will also regularly interact with top Japanese pharmaceutical companies to exchange pipeline information, set up management meetings, and identify potential local opportunities.Broad business knowledge and experience, as well as good learning agility to discuss issues in science, sales & marketing, finance, and pharmaceutical industry aspects, are required. Cross-functional leadership skills and strong interpersonal communication and leadership abilities are essential.Fluency in English is mandatory, and fluency in Japanese is preferred.Principal Responsibilities:・Lead strategic analysis in collaboration with the CFO/CEO and board members.・Support and negotiate business objectives with strategic partners.・Lead global business development efforts.・Collaborate with innovation centers and global BD to set up governance with external partners.・Scout in- and out-licensing and strategic alliance opportunities.・Manage local partner interactions to assess capabilities.・Lead negotiations.・Discuss and lead deal structures.・Deliver value-creating outcomes.・Obtain necessary approvals internally and externally.・Drive cross-functional teams for deal analysis and negotiations.・Challenge assumptions and maintain a sense of urgency.・Effectively interact with Japanese, regional, and global teams.・Manage strategic alliances to ensure smooth transitions of agreements and delivery of outcomes.・Identify, communicate, and manage risks and opportunities with new and existing partnerships and strategic alliances.・Lead the Licensing and Strategic Alliances team.・Deploy team resources appropriately and coordinate cross-functional teams.・Provide direction to personnel by establishing goals, creating a challenging yet encouraging teamwork environment, fostering innovation, learning, and career development, assigning stretch tasks, and setting priorities.Reporting Relationships:Solid line to Head of AP New Business Development; dotted line to Japan CFO/VP Finance.

・Bachelor’s/Master’s degree or higher; MBA preferable
