We are currently looking for an environmental health technical officer to join Welwyn Hatfield Council.
Location: Campus East Office, WGC - AL8 7PH
Hours: 37 hours per week.
Duration: 12 weeks
Hourly Rate: £14.28 (weekly pay)
Working as an environmental health technical officer your role will be a frontline role, delivering Environmental Health interventions such as environmental protection, food, health & safety and public health; to our residential and business customers to meet the needs of the Environmental Health service and the community.
During this role your duties will include supporting the team to take formal enforcement action as necessary by collecting evidence, statements, and acting as disclosure officer. To undertake inspections, revisits, sampling and monitoring to ensure statutory targets are met and customer service requests are investigated thoroughly, and completed in a timely manner. You will also work in partnership with other teams within the Council and outside agencies to deliver the best outcomes within the legislation and means available to the service.
Key Responsibilities:
... - Deliver a range of reactive and proactive environmental health interventions, including inspections, sampling and formal enforcement action as necessary and proportionate in accordance with the Council's documented procedures.
- Manage a varied workload in a generic Environmental Health team taking personal responsibility for case management.
- Serve legal notices and obtain warrants as authorised and competent to do so.
- Support Environmental Health Officers and the wider team with complex, high risk investigations and act as the disclosure officer in prosecution cases.
- Collect, collate and secure evidence of criminal activities falling within the remit of Environmental Health.
- Work in partnership with Public Health England to undertake infectious disease investigations with residents and businesses within the borough.
- Deliver training courses and be involved in the delivery of health promotion activities and events.
- Undertake shifts in the out of hour's noise nuisance service as required to meet the needs of the Environmental Health service.
Requirements:
- Level 4 or above in a subject relevant to health, safety, science or environment, regulatory services or equivalent experience.
- An understanding of the role and duties of Environmental Health.
- Experience of dealing with difficult people and resolving conflict.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team maintaining attention to detail and accurate records of work undertaken.
- Full driving licence valid for the UK and access to a vehicle.
