We are recruiting for a Deputy Laboratory Manager to join an analytical testing business, joining their Microbiology department, based in a state of the art fast paced laboratory in Wolverhampton.
The successful candidate will be joining the Laboratory Management Team supporting the overall operation of the laboratory. This role has a big emphasis on people management, we are really looking for someone who has the ability to support, develop and coach the current team.
Responsibilities:
- Own the day-to-day management of the main production laboratory
- Act as deputy to the Department Manager
- Prioritise the Health and Safety of the team and ensure all processes and risk assessments are reviewed
- Support and develop a zero-accident culture
- Develop a culture of continuous improvement
- Own the 5S process in the laboratory utilising the continuous improvement function to support and train the team to drive improvements
- Support, coach and mentor the team leaders under your remit to ensure they can deliver the required level of service
- Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Management System
- Ensure that all work carried out complies with documented procedures for all aspects of laboratory work
- Ensure that our staff are suitably trained and all training documents are suitably maintained including ongoing competency
- Ensure all equipment is maintained and serviced to the correct standard
- Ensure complaints and NCWs are completed to a high standard
- Work closely with the local quality team to ensure full compliance of all parts of ISO 17025
- To ensure in conjunction with the quality team, that EQA, IQC and DPC systems are maintained, and non-conformances are investigated
- Represent the laboratory in external audits
- Drive TAT to the highest possible level whilst maintaining a tight control on cost and resource levels
- Manage waste through the laboratory
- To manage the team, including recruitment, training and development, mentoring, motivation and disciplinary matters
- Complete internal audits
Qualifications:
- Understanding of ISO 17025, UKAS, key customer requirements, audit procedures, methods etc
- Proven experience in working to and exceeding targets
- Competence in IT, including LIMS, spreadsheets and databases
- Experience working in a UKAS accredited laboratory
- Able to present complex information face to face
- Strong knowledge of LIMS and instrument system integration to drive laboratory efficiencies
- Strong people management skills
- Strong management skills of for performance/absence management
- Full commitment to meeting customers expectations
