We are seeking outgoing, reliable individuals who want to protect this beautiful backyard as Biosecurity Champions/Ambassadors. This is the perfect opportunity to take on exciting temporary summer work and kick-start your new year with a passion.
The role:
Serious biosecurity issues, including plant diseases, rodents and marine pests, to name a few, are affecting our Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana and Islands, and we want you to be a champion to prevent further harm.
You will be educating boaties and visitors at key waterfront boat and ferry departure points in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland travelling to Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana and its islands on the importance of preventing the spread of pests and diseases and how this can occur. You will be working in pairs, scheduled on a roster and will be primarily working on Fridays, weekends and public holidays, starting from 2nd December 2024 and potentially up to 27th April 2025. All Champions must also be comfortable and confident approaching and talking to people, working outdoors and in a variety of locations. Reliable transport is a must. Training will be provided.
Start date: The assignment runs from 2nd December to 27th April (you can choose to finish around Auckland Anniversary/Waitangi weekend for the university term).
Hours: Part time, usually 18 hours per week (6-hour shifts - Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays) Some mid-week work may be required during the peak holiday season.
Locations: Boat ramps and marinas including but not limited to: Bayswater, Browns Bay, Beachlands, Gulf Harbour, Half Moon Bay, Kawakawa Bay, Maraetai Omaha, Orakei, Outboard Boating Club, Pine Harbour, Takapuna, West Harbour and West Haven and possibly others. Relevant public events such as the two Auckland Boat shows.
Pay: $27.80 per hour + 8% holiday pay accrued weekly
