Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) / Financial Controller to lead the finance and accounting functions for our fast-growing construction business in Penang. The ideal candidate will act as a key business partner to the CEO and play a critical role in driving financial performance and supporting the company's expansion plans. This is a unique opportunity to build and lead the finance department from the ground up and influence the company's strategic direction.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategic Partnership
- Serve as a key advisor to the CEO and leadership team, providing financial insights to guide decision-making and drive business growth.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including the private equity partner, to align financial goals with the company's growth strategy.
- Support the CEO in executing corporate strategies, including business expansion, cost optimization, and investment opportunities.
Finance & Accounting Setup
- Establish and lead the finance and accounting department, developing processes, policies, and internal controls to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Implement best practices in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Oversee all financial operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting.
- Ensure the company complies with all statutory and regulatory requirements, including tax filings, audits, and reporting obligations.
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
- Develop and manage the annual budgeting process, monthly forecasts, and long-term financial planning.
- Monitor and analyze financial performance, providing actionable insights to the executive team.
- Support operational decision-making with robust financial modeling and scenario analysis.
- Lead cost-saving initiatives and optimize working capital to support business growth.
Funding & Investor Relations
- Collaborate with private equity stakeholders to ensure alignment on financial objectives and growth targets.
- Manage relationships with external financial institutions, including banks, auditors, and tax advisors.
- Lead capital raising initiatives, including debt financing, to support expansion efforts.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to the private equity firm and other stakeholders.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Identify and mitigate financial risks by developing effective internal controls and risk management policies.
- Oversee financial audits and ensure adherence to local and international financial standards and regulations.
- Maintain appropriate insurance coverage and manage legal, regulatory, and contractual compliance.
Team Development
- Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing finance and accounting team.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the department.
- Drive automation and digital transformation initiatives to enhance efficiency and scalability.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (MBA or Master’s preferred).
- Professional certifications (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) are highly desirable.
- At least 10+ years of relevant finance experience, with a track record of leadership in a senior financial role (CFO/Financial Controller) within a construction or related industry.
- Proven experience in setting up finance functions from scratch and leading them in high-growth environments.
- Strong knowledge of financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis.
- Experience working with private equity-backed companies is a plus.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to partner with the executive team and external stakeholders.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems, financial reporting software, and digital finance tools.
