industries in Queensland continue to operate in a responsible manner, including through compliance with relevant liquor and gaming legislation, and play a lead role in effective program and project-level governance, monitoring, reporting and review.
As the Principal Policy Officer, your key responsibilities will include:
- Conduct and coordinate substantial high level research, analysis and review on complex policy, legislative and regulatory issues.
- Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of complex submissions, briefing notes, legislative drafting instructions, presentations, speeches, publications, reports and correspondence.
- Manage multiple competing priorities and work either as part of a team, or individually, to deliver workloads on time and which meet customer’s expectations.
- Liaise, consult and negotiate with other State Government and Commonwealth agencies, Government-owned corporations, market and regulatory entities and representative bodies.
- Exercise judgement to effectively manage competing priorities while working collaboratively with colleagues, or individually, to deliver workloads on time and which meet customer’s expectations.
- Contribute to a positive and effective team culture by participating in work area goal-setting, service improvement and other Unit/Divisional activities.
- Represent the department at state/federal conferences, internal/external meetings and committees, and inter-departmental/inter-jurisdictional working groups.
- Mentor, coach and train staff in an environment that recognises the unique contribution of the individual, encourages personal and team development, and encourages an appropriate work/life balance.
Technical/operational expertise:
- Experience with Cabinet and Governor in Council submission writing/policy experience with some demonstrated experience managing projects.
- Experience in legislation, policy development and/or the application of policy.
- Strong planning skills and know their way around procurement and contract administration.
- Experience in communicating with internal and external stakeholders and building relationships to establish mutually beneficial connections.
- Ability to respond in a fast paced environment and deliver results.
- Demonstrated experience in managing competing priorities and stakeholder expectations.
- Proven strong team leadership skills.
